It’s more than just clicktivism

Heya, I’m Sara Thomas, and I’m a fundraiser at MND Scotland. We provide care and information for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland, and also fund research into the disease.

What I’m looking forward to most about the BeGoodBeSocial event on the 27th, in all honesty, is meeting everyone. I’m looking forward to the conversations about the challenges you face when you’re a few steps down the line, and to getting inspiration for future projects. There are in existence at least a few thousand articles about How to Get Started in Social Media (usually written by someone with “guru” in their bio, sigh) but:

a) we’ve already started, and

b) I remain highly suspicious of anyone who calls themselves a guru.

I’m also looking forward to the strands of each of the presentations which are concerned with getting your supporters involved in communicating your message – citizen journalism, movement building. With all the pessimism surrounding ideas of “clicktivism” it’s important to remember that social media is often the first point of engagement for supporters – and that opportunity is  not to be sniffed at…
